Cognitive science is a discipline created from a convergence of interests among which is the study of cognition from different points of view . His goal is to understand the principles of cognitive behavior. Their hope is that this better understanding the human mind, the teaching and learning, thinking skills and the development of intelligent devices that can enhance human capabilities in important and constructive way. Norman
refers mainly to the following cognitive science, philosophy, psychology, linguistics, artificial intelligence, anthropology and neuroscience.
Finally, the author explains the fundamental five characteristics of the cognitive sciences :
- postulate a separate level of analysis called "level of representation"
- The importance of computers
- Attenuation of emotional emphasis, context, culture and history
- Belief in the validity of interdisciplinary studies
- Estate in classical philosophical tradition.
